Providence Public Library will hold its Summer with Your PVD Libraries kick-off on Saturday, June 22 (150 Empire Street, Providence). This summer program spans all 10 PVD libraries (and the Community Libraries of Providence Mobile Library) and includes reading challenges for both children (K – 5 grade) and teens (grades 6-12) as well as robust programming throughout the city through August 17. You can learn more at provlib.org/summer or just ask a member of Youth Services!
On June 22 at PPL, a number of events happening open to the public – no registration required – include:
10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Simple STEM activities in the Workshop — Ground Floor
11:00 am – Dave Marchetti’s Animal Experiences — Seminar Room, 3rd Floor
12:30 pm – Where does the water go? with Brown University students — Workshop
2:00 pm – Mad Science – Fire & Ice — Auditorium – 3rd Floor
All day (and all summer) children and teens can register for the 2024 summer reading challenge through Beanstack. This online portal is available as an app as well. Children and teens are challenged to read every day, visit attractions, parks and farmer’s markets, and attend library events. When they log their reading minutes and/or their activities, they earn raffle tickets for cool prizes. When they register, they receive a free book and a stash of art supplies. We also have a beautiful paper booklet where kids can fill out their reading and activities and bring it back to the library to log them in.
