Beginning its 2019 season on Tuesday, May 7, Providence Public Library will offer free guided architectural tours of its historic library building on EVERY first and third Tuesday of the month at 10:30 AM. The schedule will continue through November. Meet at the Library’s grand entrance at 225 Washington Street, Providence. During the Library’s ongoing renovation project, you can also learn about the transformational changes under way!
In addition, tours are available upon request for groups of four or more. Please contact us at 455-8090 to schedule a tour. Visit & learn about this architectural gem at the heart of our community, as well as our unique Special & Rhode Island Collections. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour. If parking, plan accordingly. Parking is available on street and in area lots.
The Library opened its classic Venetian Renaissance building in March 1900. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the Library is a prime example of turn-of-the-century (Gilded Age) American architecture.
In addition, members of the public are invited to schedule personal visits of the Library’s Special and Rhode Island Collections by contacting collections librarians at 401-455-8021 and 401-455-8028, respectively. The Library also encourages visitors during its regular open hours*. Please come to the Library’s main entrance:
