New Teen Rhode Coders 2.0 and E-Commerce Programs to Begin in January at PPL

TEENS: Have you ever wondered how games like Angry Birds and Bejeweled were created? Or what goes into designing a website? Or, do you want to learn how to start your online business? We will help you dig into the code and ultimately learn how to build your own game or website. Of, discover the intricacies of platforms like Etsy and the power of social media for effective marketing strategies.
Providence Public Library (PPL) programs are FREE and open to teens in grades 9 – 12. No coding experience necessary. Participants in grades 9 – 12 will also have the opportunity to earn .5 of a high school credit through the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE)’s Advanced Coursework Network initiative.

Rhode Coders 2.0: Web Design and Intermediate CSS (New at PPL!)
Rhode Coders 2.0: Web Design and Intermediate CSS is a course for students curious about graphic web design and interested in coding. During this class, we’ll dive into the exciting world of web design, exploring topics such as color theory, user interface design, typography, and accessibility. We will learn how to plan projects using wireframes, create mockups using design software, and bring our projects to life through coding in HTML & CSS.
Earn a Work Stipend & High School Credit
Participants in grades 9 – 12 have the opportunity to earn .5 of a high school credit through the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE)’s All Coursework Network initiative and all students earn a $350 stipend for their completion of the program.
Who Can Participate: Teens in grades 9- 12. It is recommended that you have some background in HTML and CSS before starting.
When and Where: Monday and Wednesday, 3:30 – 5:30 pm, January 22 – May 14, 2025

Rhode Coders 2.0: JavaScript
Have you ever wondered how games like Angry Birds and Bejeweled were created? We will help you dig into the code, learn JavaScript, and ultimately learn how to build your own computer game. This course provides a foundation of web-development for students with little to no coding experience. Students will learn JavaScript and programming fundamentals using a fun and game-oriented approach.
Earn a Work Stipend & High School Credit
Participants in grades 9 – 12 have the opportunity to earn .5 of a high school credit through the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE)’s All Coursework Network initiative and all students earn a $350 stipend for their completion of the program.
Who Can Participate: Teens in grades 6 – 12. No coding experience needed but we highly recommend taking HTML/CSS class before taking Javascript.
Tuesday and Thursday, 3 – 5 pm, January 21 – May 15, 2025
When and Where: **This class will be held virtually. A Zoom link and tech kit will be provided for participants prior to the start of the semester.

E-Commerce Essentials: Building Your Digital Marketplace
Learn How to Start Your Online Business
Through hands-on activities and real-world examples, students will discover the intricacies of platforms like Etsy and the power of social media for effective marketing strategies.
From mastering search engine optimization techniques to crafting compelling product listings, students will learn how to navigate the digital marketplace with confidence. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skill to transform their creative ideas into thriving online businesses!
Who Can Participate: Teens ages 14 – 18. No prior experience required.
