Library Tours
Guided architectural tours of our historic library and recently renovated 1950s buildings are offered weekly at 11 am on Wednesdays. Come to our 150 Empire Street entrance.
The Library opened this classic Venetian Renaissance building in March 1900. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the Library is a prime example of turn-of-the-century American architecture.
In making the Library’s restored, original spaces available for community use, we are honoring and renewing the spirit of our unique and historic building so it continues to inspire and uplift those seeking lifelong learning and opportunities to gather with the community. We invite you to visit and learn about this architectural gem at the heart of our community, along with our unique and special collections, including the Rhode Island Collection.
Additionally, in 2020 we completed our historic $28 million renovation of our 1950s Empire Street and Stacks buildings, completely transforming our facilities for the 21st century. We invite you to come experience all we've done!
Please check our calendar to confirm a tour is running on the day you are planning to come. Also, we encourage you to sign up in advance in case we need to contact you in the event of a schedule change.
