Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) presents “Spark Up a Story”
Summer Workshops Series to complement 2009 “Be Creative” Summer Reading Program at Providence Libraries
The Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) presents a “Spark Up a Story” – a series of Summer Story Workshops presented in partnership with Providence Public Library and Providence Community Libraries in conjunction with the 2009 Summer Reading Program – “Be Creative @ Your Library.”
RIBS storytellers invite everyone to BE CREATIVE and join in the family-friendly fun that gets everybody into the act of sharing a good story. Funding for this workshop series is provided by Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. “Spark Up a Story” workshop programs are scheduled as follows:
SATURDAY, July 11 – 12:30 pm
KNIGHT MEMORIAL LIBRARY, 275 Elmwood Avenue
ABIGAIL “IFATOLA” JEFFERSON: “We Can All Tell A Tale”
Join Abigail “Ifatola” Jefferson in a fun and exciting afternoon of playing storytelling games and weaving stories to share!!! We are all tellers of tales. Come on down to discover the storyteller in you!
TUESDAY, July 14 – 6:00 pm
SOUTH PROVIDENCE LIBRARY, 141 Prairie Avenue
LEN CABRAL: “A Storytelling Informance” and 3 door prizes!
Join Len Cabral for a part performance, part workshop hands-on storytelling experience for families, teens, parents and grandparents preferred. Those folks that come will leave with a story to tell and the confidence to tell it.
MONDAY, July 20 – 6:00 pm
MOUNT PLEASANT LIBRARY, 315 Academy Avenue
RAFFINI: “Make a Character, Take a Character”
Join Raffini as she opens the doorway of exploration to discover who the storytellers in our families are. Create a character from found materials that will be part of a team-telling story work woven together to celebrate the preservation of stories that help shape family values and build community.

RAMONA BASS-KOLOBE, The Watermelon Lady: “Our Family Trees, Our Family Treasures”
Join Ramona Bass-Kolobe as she brings her PEACE AND PARADIZE PUPPETS to life with tales from her family history story-piece, “Memories in the Mirrors.” Then make a stick-puppet of someone in your family and learn how to re-enact stories from your own family tree and ways to add pizzazz to your story reading style!

ROCHEL GARNER COLEMAN
“Stories I Heard Around Grandpa’s Table”
Join Rochel Garner Coleman for a whirl around the world through stories. Then jump into a geography workshop where folks get to map the places of origins of the stories and tell a tale or two of their own!
