RI Center for the Book at Providence Public Library Presented 2008 Boorstin Award; The Award Recognizes Innovative Reading Promotion Efforts

Robin Kall & author Sara GruenThe Rhode Island Center for the Book at Providence Public Library received the 2008 Boorstin Award at the Library of Congress’ annual State Exchange Day in Washington, D.C. on May 14, 2008. The $1,000 Boorstin Award recognizes the Rhode Island Center for a successful period of renewal under the leadership of the Providence Public Library, which resulted in increased individual and organizational membership. The Rhode Island Center was also recognized for its effective continuation of its Reading Across Rhode Island (RARI) signature event, the development of a new series of reading-promotion programs for specific constituencies, including young readers and the book arts, and for significant and effective marketing achievements like the creation of a new Web site and logo. The two other state Centers for the Book award winners were the Ohio and Kansas affiliates.

The Rhode Island Center for the Book at Providence Public Library celebrates the art and heritage of reading, writing, making, and sharing books. Through a variety of programs, activities, and resources, the Center promotes a love for books among people of all ages and backgrounds across Rhode Island.
