Getting a library card
Visit the Circulation Desk of any location of the Providence Public Library and get a FREE library card. You must fill out a form and present personal identification and verification of your current address.
Rhode Island Residents
Acceptable ID includes driver’s license, car registration, utility bill, lease, checks or cancelled personal mail.
Children under 14 years of age
Parent or guardian must sign registration form and present proof of address; parent must sign additional form if the child will be borrowing videos/DVDs or using the Internet.
Out-of-state residents
Residents of other states who currently attend a college or school in Rhode Island full-time.
(Acceptable proof includes student ID, course schedule, bill.)
Residents of other states who are employed full-time in Rhode Island. (Acceptable proof includes recent pay stub, tax receipt.)
Other out-of-state residents may obtain a Ocean State Libraries card for a $25 annual fee.
Temporary users/Visitors
Card expires after 1 month and is limited to a maximum of 2 items.
(Acceptable proof includes hotel confirmation or bill, recently dated form from a local social service
agency, or cancelled personal mail.)
Replacement fee for a lost Ocean State Libraries card is $1.
